KSOC-TV: Supporting Families with LGBTQ Youth
On Monday, August 11, KSOC-TV explored ways that communities can support families with LGBTQ youth. Research shows that family acceptance contributes significantly to improving the health and well-being for LGBTQ youth and reduces the risk of suicide.

KSOC-TV: Intersecting Identities - Improving Health Outcomes for LGBTQI2-S Youth of Color
The January 2017 KSOC-TV webcast delved into the intersecting identities of LGBTQI2-S youth of color and the associated challenges they may face, such as trauma, suicide, and resilience. A panel of experts discussed strategies to build supportive spaces for LGBTQI2-S youth of color, address behavioral health challenges, and facilitate healing among children, youth, and families.

Support for LGBTQ Youth Starts at Home: An #AsYouAre Project
This animated short focuses on the impact of rejection children, youth and young adults can experience in their homes and communities and provides examples and strategies to promote support, acceptance and affirmation of youth with diverse SOGIE.

This Family Leaders Learning Community will equip family organization leaders to respond to issues facing Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity/Expression Diverse (SOGIE) or Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex, Two-Spirit (LGBTQI2-S) youth and their families. It will focus on terminology and the diversity within and among LGBTQ+ communities, as well as information on when children and teens may begin to express gender identity questions.

This month’s Learning Community provides an opportunity to share the successes and challenges of your own community’s PRIDE events this past month. We will also talk about how communities responded to the tragedy in a gay nightclub in Orlando, FL that took the lives of so many.
